Presteigne St Andrews FC’s manager Tom Ammonds has been looking ahead to the Spar Mid Wales League, second-division trip to Aberystwyth University on Saturday, 19 November.

There was very little football across the region last weekend due to the Wales international at Cardiff, but it will be back to it with a vengeance on Saturday.

Tom admits from the outset that it has been a bit of a struggle to raise a squad for this game as a sizeable number of players are unavailable.

“Looking at both squads [first team and Reserves] there are nine players unavailable this weekend,” said Tom.

“Dale [Tomkins] and I have bashed heads together and we’ve come up with two squads that we think can get results in both games.

“We had a really exciting game [against them] down here under the lights on a Tuesday night where it finished in a 4-4 draw.

“I’m not hoping for more of the same if I am being honest but obviously if that is the way it goes, then that will be the way it goes.”

The Reserves will have home advantage for their match in which they will take on St Harmon in the Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales League (South) Cup first round (is that the longest title ever for a competition?)

The Ressies will go into this one in a reasonably confident frame of mind – they are having a very encouraging season and won their league fixture at St Harmon only three weeks ago.

But, with so many players missing from both squads, Dale will no doubt be impressing on his squad the fact there can be no room for complacency as the Saints will fancy their chances in this one.

The kick off at Llanandras Park will be at 2.30pm and admission will be the usual £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for senior citizens and youngsters under the age of 16.
