Presteigne Reserves’ scheduled home match against Hay St Mary’s Reserves, which was due to be played on Wednesday, 14 December, has been postponed.

It was a credit to the groundsman Tracy Hammond and his team that the Llanandras Park pitch held up remarkably well during Saturday’s first-team game against Four Crosses – a match played in monsoon conditions.

But an inspection earlier today confirmed our fears that parts of the pitch have held much of the rain that fell on it and so Wednesday’s game has been called off.

“It is the usual places that are affected – down by the clubhouse in particular,” said Tom Ammonds.

“It rained heavily yesterday evening and overnight and there is the promise of more to come.

“We took the decision after discussions with the Mid Wales League (South) secretary, Paul Worts and Hay’s chairman Martin Tong.

“To be fair to Hay, it’s only right we should make an early call on this one as players and officials all have a lot on at this time of year so this way they can make other arrangements.”

The Reserves will now return to action in the New Year – so they can look forward to an extended Christmas break.
