No joy for the Reserves in their Friday-night game under the lights

Presteigne Reserves missed out in their Friday-night home match against Rhayader Town Reserves.

Dale Tomkins’ side went down 2-0 in their Mid Wales League (South) game at Llanandras Park on Friday, 6 January.

While Rhayader’s second string have not been as strong this season as in recent campaigns, they still had enough in the tank to leave with all three points from this one.

The result leaves the Reserves in sixth place in the league table, level on points with Knighton Town Reserves who enjoyed a good weekend as they were 5-3 home winners over leaders, Talgarth Town.

There was further evidence that the league is tighter than ever this year as second-placed Brecon Northcote were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom side, St Harmon.

So, Talgarth Town are five points clear at the top of the table, but second-placed Brecon Northcote have two games in hand.

But two points cover Northcote in second place and Builth Wells Reserves in fifth, so it really is very tight in terms of the chasing pack.

Presteigne Reserves are three points behind Builth Wells Reserves, but they do have four games in hand over the Lant Field side.
