Presteigne Reserves rounded off their home league programme in emphatic style when they saw off Felindre 8-1 in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Llanandras Park on Thursday, 2 May.

While the Reserves would have gone into this game as clear favourites, they still had to get the job done and they clearly did this with a fair bit to spare.

I am advised the goalscorers were Alan Stocker with three, Tom Crichton, Duane Anning, Ewan Rhodes with two while there was also an own goal.

It looks likely as though the Reserves will finish fourth in the league, although they could yet be overhauled by Builth Wells Reserves who are five points behind with two games in hand.

Builth produced the shock result of the season at this level when they put champions-elect Rhayader Town to the sword at Lant Field in winning 4-0 on Thursday evening.

It won’t make any difference to the title race at Rhayader are six points clear with only one game to play, but it was a first league defeat of the season for the Weirglodd side.

Presteigne Reserves’ destiny is in their own hands when it comes to securing fourth place as their final league match will be away at Builth Wells Reserves on Thursday, 10 May.

Before then, there is the small matter of the Pip Samuel (Electrical) Cup final in which they will take on Rhayader Town at Builth Wells FC on Sunday, 6 May.

The kick off in that one will be at 2.30pm.
