Presteigne St Andrews FC and Presteigne Cricket Club have got together in order to help support to the town’s international Karate star Kerrie Griffin.

Kerrie is due to head to the World Karate Championships in Madrid in November.

This will not be a cheap exercise as Kerrie has to fund herself for training, travel and accommodation.

She has set up a GoFundMe page which you can reach by clicking here or on the image at the top of the page.

“Kerrie had raised £500 of her £1000 goal but both clubs have given her £250 to help her reach her initial goal,” said club secretary Tom Ammonds.

“But Kerrie can still take donations as there is also the costs of her preparations for the World Championships – this weekend she has the British Championships in Leicester before she flies out for a week-long training camp in Norway on Monday.

Kerrie says her trip to Madrid is going to keep her busy.

“I will be competing in the female 68kg Kumite (fighting) category and also competing in the Female Senior Kata,” she said.

“It is a great opportunity to be competing in both events.

“I am a self-funded athlete and have to pay all expenses for my trip like the hotel, travel, and sports equipment.

“The remainder of 2018 will be busy with competitions and training days – these are expensive with costs including entry fees, travel and accommodation.”

Everyone at Presteigne St Andrews FC wishes Kerrie well for the upcoming tournaments, especially the World Championships.
