My thanks to first-team manager Shaun Harris for sending through his thoughts on Saturday’s ER Jenkins Cup tie against Rhayader Town on Saturday, 3 November.

Despite the 3-1 home reversal, Shaun felt there were plenty of positives to take out of the performance – no least in the way the side had battled out in the face of a rising injury count.

“Having made lots of changes from the win against Aberystwyth University, I thought we gave a good account of ourselves,” said Shaun.

”We made three changes in defence and rested three others from the midfield and forward areas.

“Up until Tom Crichton’s first-half injury I thought we looked the likely winners.

“Losing Tom was a big blow and we never really recovered after that.

“We also had concerns over the fitness off Curtis Williams and Jordan Cooper throughout the game.

“I’m not making excuses and I was pleased with the lads the stepped in.

“I thought Liam Tomkins was outstanding again at the back and he looks a real asset to the first team.

“Rob Taylor stepped up at short notice from the reserves and had a decent game.

“Credit to Toby in goal and all of the back line for keeping the scoreline down second half with only nine fully fit players on the pitch.

“I’m proud of the lads’ development in the last month and can’t wait to have everyone fit again.

“We’ve got some great results lately and we’ve been missing some big players so things are looking promising.

“We have another cup game Friday so I will look to rotate again and hope to have a few more boys from the reserves involved.

This gives me the chance to hopefully get a few lads back from injury for the league game versus Hay.”
