A hard-working performance by a youtful first team

Presteigne St Andrews FC went out of the Hay St Mary’s Invitation Cup at the semi-final stage on Tuesday, 26 March.

Shobdon headed home from Llanandras Park with a 3-1 victory although reports suggest Presteigne’s makeshift side put up a good battling performance.

This was interim manager Alan Stocker’s first game in charge of the side and his young side worked hard throughout.

This was Tom Ammonds’ take on the game in which Duane Anning came up with Presteigne’s consolation goal.

“A big crowd watched an entertaining game in which Shobdon shaded matters.

“Presteigne battled well but ultimately to no avail in their efforts to get back in the game but there were many positives for interim manager Alan Stocker to build upon.

“The game was marred by a nasty injury to Marcus Pearce who thankfully has no broken bones following a hefty challenge.

“He does have tissue damage that will probably see him sidelined till the end of the season.

“I personally thought the back four worked tremendously hard to contain the Shobdon attack but when you have five or six players out due to a variety of reasons it was always going to be difficult.

“Shobdon were much more physical but that is no excuse for the result and we wish them all the very best for the final.”
