Spar Mid Wales League AGM

Presteigne St Andrews FCThe Spar Mid Wales League will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 24 June at which a number of key issues are likely to be resolved.

Uppermost among these will presumably be the confirmation of the make up of the two divisions for next season with Presteigne St Andrews due to figure in division one.

The decision to withdraw CP Llanandras from the league could mean the second division falling short of its maximum 16-club entry.

Among other items on the agenda will be discussions over the possible setting up of a youth league, although this idea lacked support when it was raised last time around – maybe we are not the only club facing potential problems under the ‘one player, one club’ ruling.

Whatever the outcome of  Thursday night’s discussions, Presteigne St Andrews are likely to remain within the Herefordshire structure for the foreseeable future.

“One proposal for the Mid Wales Youth League would be to play the matches on Sundays, and I am not sure this would work,” said Presteigne chairman Alan Randell.

“The boys all play on Saturdays and then often enjoy a night out after the game,  so would they then really want to get up and play again on Sunday?

“Then there is the travelling – this could be considerably more in the Mid Wales set up and I am not sure they would fancy that a great deal.

“There was a suggestion it might be a summer league, but again this would prove problematic as most clubs would be in our position where the groundsman doesn’t want people all over the pitch in the summer after re-seeding,” he added.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Phil Woosnam and Phil Jones were both re-elected unopposed as the Central Wales representatives on the FAW Council.
