Presteigne St Andrews FC’s chairman Alan Randell will have one of the year’s more pleasant duties to perform on Thursday evening when he will receive the Spar Mid Wales League Player-of-the-Season award on Shane Sutton’s behalf.

Before anyone accuses the chairman of hogging the limelight(!), it should be stressed that Shane couldn’t be there in person as he is away on holiday and so Alan has agreed to pick up the award for him.

The presentation is likely to be made during the Spar Mid Wales League’s executive meeting that will take place immediately before the Annual General Meeting.

“It is great for the club that Shane’s achievements have been recognised in this way,” said Alan.

“While it is a shame he will not be with us next season he is still only 21 and has been offered the chance to play at a higher level so we can only wish him luck and hope he returns to Llanandras Park at some stage in the future.

“It spoke volumes about his contribution to the team last season when he won our Supporters’ Player-of-the-Year trophy at the club dinner with a unanimous vote,” he added.

Shane has reportedly agreed to sign for Newtown next season and so will be looking to win himself a place in their FAW Premier League side.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed the Mid Wales League (South) Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday 28 June at Llandrindod Wells FC.
