Deep and crisp and even…so games off

Presteigne St Andrews FC
No chance of football at Llanandras Park today

It won’t come as a massive surprise to anyone to learn that today’s scheduled matches for the first team and the Reserves have both been postponed due to snow and/or frozen pitches.

Presteigne chairman Alan Randell didn’t need to venture too far to make the decision over the first-team’s home match against Carno in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup, first round.

“The ground is rock hard all around and there was no way we were going to be able to play at Llanandras Park today,” he said.

“Common sense tells you the game was never going to be on and there is also the safety issue of Carno getting here when they would have to come over Dolfor and then go back again when the temperatures drop again this evening.

“I spoke to them this morning and said we would never forgive ourselves if someone was in an accident and they totally agreed,” he added.

League secretary Phil Woosnam has told Alan that it will be league fixtures as per normal next weekend with the League Cup ties then being rescheduled for early in the new year.

As for the Reserves’ game, this was an even earlier call – again, no great surprise given they were due to be heading to St Harmon.

As the Reserves’ boss Andy Crowe put it: ‘They are up in the air a fair bit there, so if it snowing down here, then it isn’t going to be too good up at St Harmon’ – and he was proved right as that game, too, went by the wayside.

As we understand it, all scheduled matches in the Mid Wales League (South) have already fallen victim to the weather while the League Cup ties in the Spar League are also starting to fall – according to the BBC Wales forum among the games already called off are Llanfyllin Town v Berriew and Montgomery Town v Newbridge.

More recently, Aberystwyth University against Builth Wells, Abermule versus Llandrindod Wells and Tywyn Bryncrug against Tregaron Turfs have also gone by the wayside.

The one Spar League game scheduled for today – Talgarth Town v Rhosgoch Rangers is also reportedly off

Christmas shopping, anyone?  No, I thought not…..
