Ressies finish with a win and Otway Cup final

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Andy Crowe has guided the Reserves to a fourth-place finish

Congratulations to Andy Crowe and his Reserves who rounded off their season with a fine 2-1 win at Knighton Town in yesterday’s last match of the Mid Wales League (South) season.

Christian Roberts netted a goal in each half as Presteigne twice led in a game that was only marred from the visitors’ point of view in the closing stages when Alan Stocker was sent off for a second yellow card.

The victory means the Reserves finished a highly creditable fourth in the table as they overhauled Builth Wells Reserves on the final day as Builth were held to a 3-3 draw at Llandrindod Wells Reserves.

Yesterday’s result also means that Knighton Town missed out on runners-up spot in the table as Newcastle pipped them on goal difference courtesy of their final-day 2-0 win at home to Bronllys.

Despite that defeat, Bronllys achieved their objective of staying off the foot of the league table, but only on goal difference as Sennybridge thumped Radnor Valley 6-2 so finished level on points with Bronllys but ended up bottom because of their goal difference.

Elsewhere yesterday, Rhayader Town Reserves rounded off their title-winning season with a 4-2 win at Talgarth Town Reserves – given they won 26 of 28 league matches surely nobody can say they are not worthy champions.

Today at Llanandras Park it is the Otway Cup final in which Newbridge will take on Talgarth Town – the kick off is at 3.00pm and all support will be welcome.
