Dinner and Awards Night a great success

Tom Edwards receives his Clubman of the Year Award from Idris Gwilt

Many thanks to everyone who played their part in ensuring that Saturday night’s end-of-season celebration went off really well.

Around 70 people attended the Dinner and Awards Night at the clubhouse where we were well catered for by Jean Burgoyne and her staff and well entertained by Phil Weaver.

The speeches were kept to a minimum, with club chairman Alan Randell acting as MC and introducing Barry Williams and Phil Parker from the first team, Andy Crowe from the Reserves and Under 18s boss Trevor Gummer.

Alan also used the occasion to announce that Mike Symonds is to return to Llanandras Park as first-team manager for the 2011-12 season when he will be assisted by Jamie Allen.

A further report on who won what in terms of the awards will appear over the next day or so but special mention was made of Dot Griffiths who is to ‘take a year out’ after a long period of service on the committee and Di Hammersley who is stepping down as club secretary.

Club President Idris Gwilt – who is shortly to step down after two years in the post – and his wife Barbara were thanked for their unswerving support of the club with Idris presenting the awards.

A good night was had by all of those who were there while we are very grateful to all of those who worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure the evening went well – this involved the hauling of tables and chairs to and from the school, the arranging of flowers for the tables, sorting out the trophies for the awards and a host of other unseen jobs that went into making the night such a success.
