Depleted Reserves slip to heavy defeat

Presteigne St Andrews FCPresteigne Reserves went down to a heavy defeat in their pre-season friendly at Tenbury Wells on Wednesday, 27 July.

Manager Stuart Skidmore thought the margin of defeat was probably around 9-0, but he was full of praise for those players who had made the trip to Palmers Meadow.

“We were already struggling for a side when we had two more players drop out last night and then a further two this morning,” he said.

“We fielded a 15-year-old and went with only 12 players, while our cause was not helped when a mate of mine – Mark Gardiner – who had come along to help me out limped off with a hamstring problem after only 10 minutes.

“Fair play to Tenbury, they looked decent and we might have struggled with a full squad, but we were probably six or seven players down from what I would have been looking for,” he added.

While Stuart admits it is a major frustration, he realises that we are still in peak holiday period and so there are bound to be players missing for a few weeks yet.

But he was grateful to those players who did make the trip to Tenbury as they kept going right until the end and for them it proved a useful run out.
