First team go down at Bont

Presteigne St Andrews FC
It was to prove another frustrating day for first-team boss Trevor Gummer

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s stop-start to the Spar Mid Wales League season continued as they were beaten 1-0 at Bont on Saturday, 1 October.

Their hosts went into the game looking for their first win of the league season and they duly took all three points although initial reports suggest that Presteigne had enough chances to have secured the win.

The Reserves were without a game – albeit at short notice, after Sennybridge called off the Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Llanandras Park after they were unable to raise a team.

While nobody likes to see any side in this position, clearly this casts some doubt over ‘bridge’s continued participation in the Mid Wales League (South) this season.

It was the fact the game was called off so late in the day that was the major problem – it was 1.10pm when chairman Alan Randell received the call from league secretary Paul Worts.

While we are attaching no blame at all to the league for the short notice – they had only been informed minutes before – it did lead to a number of committee members having a chase round to cancel food etc in the run up to the anticipated kick off.

But these things happen, and we are grateful to the Royal Oak in particular for their cooperation and understanding of what was a difficult situation for all concerned.

A more detailed match report on the first-team game will be up online as soon as I receive the relevant information.
