Radnorshire Cup exit for first team

There will be no Radnorshire Cup glory for Presteigne St Andrews this season after they were well beaten at Knighton Town in their quarter-final tie on Sunday, 23 October.

Knighton ran out 5-1 victors in the tie in which little went right for Trevor Gummer’s side, other than when Christian Roberts maintained his excellent goalscoring run with what proved to be the consolation goal when he netted following a corner.

Trevor Gummer admitted it had been very much a weekend of contrasts as the side had thumped Meifod 7-0 only 24 hours previously.

But he was left to reflect that Sir Alex Ferguson’s words following Manchester United’s 6-1 home defeat by their main rivals Manchester City also rang true for his side after this one.

There are match reports up online for both the league win over Meifod and the Radnorshire Cup defeat – both can be found on the First Team page of the site.

I will do my best to track down Stuart Skidmore, or someone from the Reserves, for a few thoughts on how things went in the 4-2 defeat at Bronllys.

Clearly, the answer to this is probably going to be: ‘Not as well as we would have liked..’, but I will do my best to add a bit more flesh to the bones than just that…

There is no game for the first team this weekend as it is the first round of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup and we have a bye.

The Reserves are due to host Llandrindod Wells Reserves at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 29 October (kick off 2.30pm).

It is likely that one or two first-team players will feature in the squad as Trevor feels they could do with a game, but he plans to talk to Stuart Skidmore later in the week to finalise the details.
