Magnificent seven puts paid to Meifod

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Christian Roberts (9) netted a hat-trick in the win over Meifod

Presteigne St Andrews recorded what was by far in a way their best league win of the Spar Mid Wales, second division season as they thumped Meifod 7-0 at Llanandras Park.

The bottom-of-the-table visitors arrived with ony 10 players and, to their credit, kept battling all the way to the end, but Presteigne were convincing winners and the general view was they could easily have won by a far greater margin.

Presteigne led 2-0 at the interval courtesy of goals from Andy White and Christian Roberts who scored within three minutes of each other midway through the first half.

Callum Matthews then made it 3-0 two minutes after the break before Danny Evans scored from the penalty spot after Joel Layton’s surging run forward ended with his being brought down.

Christian then went on to complete his hat-trick with two more goals that sandwiched what was reportedly a cracking strike from Jordan Griffiths who impressed on his debut after stepping up from the Reserves.

So, three points and a major boost to the goal difference, all of which should hopefully give the side some confidence ahead of the Radnorshire Cup trip to Knighton Town on Sunday, 23 October.

The Reserves slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Bronllys in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture – Tom Hooper netted from the penalty sport for Stuart Skidmore’s side, while Stuart Millichamp was also on target.

There will be more detailed reports up online at some stage on Monday, 24 October, or shortly afterwards, depending on when the emails/texts arrive.
