Derby heartbreak for first team

Presteigne St Andrews FC
A midweek defeat under the lights for the first team

Presteigne St Andrews suffered a bitterly disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Rhosgoch Rangers in their Spar Mid Wales League, second division fixture at Llanandras Park on Wednesday, 30 November.

Rhosgoch took all three points with what was virtually the last kick of the game and, in doing so, condemned Presteigne to their fifth defeat in their last six matches in all competitions.

Things started well with Alan Stocker putting Presteigne ahead in a first half in which the home side played well – in fact, they could have been out of side as they hit the frame of the goal on three separate occasions during that first period.

But Rhosgoch began to establish themselves and turned things around to lead 2-1 in the second period.

But Danny Evans kept his cool from the penalty spot to square the game at 2-2 with around five minutes remaining and at that stage a draw looked the favoured result.

But Rhosgoch then popped up to net the winner in the dying seconds when they scored from a free kick on the penalty area.

The first team will have no game on Saturday, but the Under 18s are due to be in action on Thursday, 1 December when they will entertain Leominster Minors at Llanandras Park in a 7.30pm kick off.
