Reserves crash out of the Emrys Morgan Trophy

Presteigne St Andrews FC
It was the end of the road for the Reserves in the Emrys Morgan

Presteigne Reserves’ hopes of an extended run in this season’s J Emrys Morgan Trophy came to nothing as they were beaten 6-2 at home by Maesglas in their second-r0und tie at Llanandras Park.

Things started well enough as Stuart Skidmore’s side took a first-half lead through Merv Stephens, but the visitors first of all equalised, and then took the lead before the interval.

Clearly if Presteigne were to give themselves a chance of progressing, they needed a strong start to the second half, but the visitors were having none of it.

Maesglas rattled in four more goals after the break to open out a convincing 6-1 lead although Presteigne Reserves did have the final say when Tom Hooper netted a late penalty.

In truth, though, this was little more than a consolation goal and the early suggestions are that ‘Skiddy’s’ boys can have few complaints about the overall result.

I will be in touch with Stuart to ask him for his thoughts on proceedings with a view to putting a more detailed report on the Reserves page of the website.
