Preview of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Stuart Skidmore has arranged a friendly for the Reserves at Bromyard Casuals

Presteigne St Andrews will face an important home match on Saturday, 21 January when they will host Tregaron Turfs at Llanandras Park.

Trevor Gummer’s side will go into the match knowing a win in this one would see them climb above Tregaron in the table while it could also put clear blue water between them and the bottom two.

However, were things to go the wrong way, this could leave Presteigne with a five-point gap to bridge between themselves and those clubs immediately above them.

It won’t have escaped the attention of the Presteigne squad that they owe Tregaron one after Trevor Gummer’s squad was roundly thrashed 7-3 at the Turfs back in early September.

Without wishing to labour the point, Presteigne are in dire need of a win – it is now 11 games in all competitions since a win of any kind – that was a 7-0 victory over Meifod at Llanandras Park back on 22 October.

The Reserves will be on their travels this weekend – but not to their originally scheduled destination.

Stuart Skidmore had been due to take his squad to a Penybont side that has serious designs on the Mid Wales League (South) title.

But the ‘bont are in cup action, and so the pleasure of a trip to the Racecourse will have to wait for another day later in the season.

Facing the prospect of being without a game, Stuart has moved to arrange a friendly match and so will take his side to Bromyard Casuals.

While there are mitigating circumstances due to their losing players to first-team call ups, it is now only one win in their last 13 matches in all competitions, so this should prove very useful match practice.

The first-team match at Llanandras Park is due to get underway at 2.30pm and admission will be £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
