Sparey Cup progress for the Reserves

Presteigne St Andrews FCPresteigne Reserves are through to the semi-finals of the Alfred Sparey Cup after a 4-2 extra-time win over Newbridge Reserves in their quarter-final tie at Llanandras Park.

This proved quite a comeback for Stuart Skidmore’s side as they were 2-0 down in this one but hit back to force a draw.

“Merv [Stephens] scored our first with a header, while Mikey Lewis then came up with the equaliser to take the game to extra time,” said ‘Skiddy’.

“Although Tom Durant scored what seemed a perfectly good goal that would have made it 3-2 in normal time, but the linesman flagged it offside.

“I felt Tom had run past their player to tap the ball in – as there were only about three minutes left at the point, it was ‘controversial’ shall we say!” he added.

So, it was into extra time and Presteigne must have thought the momentum was with them after coming from two goals down to earn the chance to take the game to the extra 30 minutes.

The didn’t disappoint, either, as Merv Stephens again scored with a header to make it 3-2, while Kyle Chillery then popped up to score the fourth to take the home side through to the last four.
