Preview of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Presteigne were well beaten at Talgarth Town in the first league match of the season

Both senior sides are due to return to action this weekend as the season heads into the home straight and both sides will be acutely aware they could do with a big finish.

The first team will entertain Talgarth Town at Llanandras Park when they will be on something of a revenge mission after they were roundly stuffed in the first Spar Mid Wales League, second division match of the season at Talgarth.

On the night, Presteigne finished a distant second as they were well beaten 6-0, and so there is plenty of scope for improvement in Saturday’s return fixture.

This game was originally due to be played on Saturday, 4 February but it was called off then due to a frozen pitch at Llanandras Park.

Talgarth have had a very solid season and are in the top six in the second division table – they are facing their second derby game in as many weeks after playing at Knighton Town last weekend.

As for the Reserves, they, too, will face a derby game as they will head over the hill to Knighton Town Reserves.

Knighton’s second string has largely blown hot and cold at home this season, with five wins and four defeats from their 10 home league matches so far.

A win for Stuart Skidmore’s Reserves in this one would give them a lift as they head into the closing phase of the season.

The first-team match is due to kick off at 2.30pm and admission prices will be £2.5o for adults, £1.50 for  senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.

The Reserves’ game at Bryn-y-Castell will also kick off at 2.30pm.
