Presteigne St Andrews FC
Trevor Gummer - manager, goalkeeper and now striker?

The match reports from the Under 18s’ home defeat by Leominster Minors last Thursday and the first-team game at Aberaeron last Saturday.

My thanks to both Roy Under 18s’ boss Simcock and Trevor Gummer – the first-team manager – for their help with this; it was much appreciated as always.

The Under 18s’ were disappointing in going down 4-1 at home to Leominster which was a shame as it had been a season in which they had really threatened to make their mark before falling away over the closing stages.

As for the first team’s trip to Aberaeron – a public ‘fair play’ to those squad members who did make the trip as no fewer than nine pulled out of the trip to the likely Division Two champions.

While some of the reasons for non-appearance were perfectly reasonable, others were less so.

Those who, to quote Trevor Gummer – ‘didn’t turn up’ or ‘didn’t reply to calls or texts’ need to take a long hard look at themselves.

So, the first team headed to Aberaeron with the bare 11 players – a team that featured Trev himself playing up front, and Tom ‘Pie’ Edwards seconded to the left-back role.

But they battled well to go down 2-1 – to be honest, most of us would have taken that score at Aberaeron even if we would have been able to field a full-strength side.
