Presteigne Reserves recorded their second win of the Mid Wales League (South) season as a strong second-half performance saw them ease to a comprehensive 6-0 win over visiting Bronllys.

Andy Crowe’s side had gone two weeks without a game but they showed little sign of rustiness as they proved far too strong for the league newcomers.

To be fair to Bronllys, they were more than in the game at the interval as Presteigne had to wait until five minutes before the break to open their account when Tom Gibbs fired home from inside the area.

But ‘Crowie’s’ side stepped it up after the break with Alan Stocker making it 2-0 and then Duane Anning’s cross shot was helped into his own net by the visiting keeper.

Alan Stocker then added three more goals of his own as the Reserves stretched away from their visitors to round off a comprehensive victory.

Andy Crowe was obviously happy with the victory but felt the margin could have been even greater.

“It could have been a lot more, especially in the second half when we lost our shape a bit as everyone wanted to get in on the goalscoring action,” he said.

“Bronllys will get better – after all, this was their first game in the league and they haven’t had the most settled start when it was thought they were going to drop out of the league at one stage.

“But you can’t complain really after a 6-0 win so we will take that and move on to Saturday now when we will head to Llandrindod Wells Reserves.”

Reserves in action this evening

Presteigne Reserves will tonight return to action after a two-week early-season break when they will take on Mid Wales League (South) newcomers Bronllys at Llanandras Park.

Andy Crowe was waiting on news of the first-team selection for the home match against Newbridge before finalising his squad for the game but he does have some injury concerns.

Bronllys entered the league for the first time this season (or at least the first time in a long time), but their season was almost over before it started when they announced their intention to withdraw on the eve of the season.

This has since been retracted, and so Presteigne Reserves will become their first opponents in the Mid Wales League this evening.

There is a more detailed preview of the game on the Reserves page of the site – click on the ‘Reserves’ tab at the top of the page and it will take you there.

If you are going to the game tonight, then please take a camera with you and email a few snaps over for use in the match report that it is hoped to have up online at some stage on Friday 3 September.

Round up of the Wednesday night action

September 2nd, 2010

Presteigne St Andrews FCIn last night’s other matches in the Spar Mid Wales League first division, Waterloo Rovers maintained their recent excellent form with a 2-1 home win over Berriew.

Llanrhaeadr also picked up three points – they beat visiting Dyffryn Banw 1-0 while the league champions Penparcau were held to a 1-1 draw in what is effectively a derby game at Bow Street.

Dolgellau will be delighted with their three points – they made the trip to Tywyn Bryncrug which, as most people will recognise is never the easiest of places to go, and came away with a 3-2 victory.

A preview of the Reserves’ game will appear on the site later today, but just a reminder that Andy Crowe’s side is due to take on Bronllys in a Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Llanandras Park this evening when the kick off will be at 7.30pm.

Admission to the game will be £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for senior citizens and children under the age of 16.
