Acting on information received from a normally unimpeachable source – well, the chairman – I was reliably informed that the draw for the August 100 Club would take place this evening.
I am now told by those in the know that this will not happen until a week tonight – so, Friday, 6 September.
This is for a wide variety of factors affecting those who normally undertake the draw and which means they can’t make it tonight.
Among these is the fact the Chairman and Mrs Chairman have taken Chairman the Younger off the Tenby for a few days before the sprogs return to the ‘big house’ for the start of the new term.
Alan is at pains to point out that the fact he is off on holiday only days after a large scale fundraiser at the club in the shape of the Beer Festival and Fun Day is merely coincidence.
I should hope so, too – all the work that went into the Fun Day, if he was going to use the proceeds for nefarious (good word) purposes, then he would have at least been able to afford Tenerife rather than Tenby.
The upshot of all this is that the August draw will now take place at the Bowling Club on Friday, 6 September, while the September draw will then presumably take place the Royal British Legion Club on Friday, 27 September.
