Disappointing day for first team boss Danny Williams

Saturday, 26 October will not go down as one of our finest days of what has so far been a very promising season as both the first team and the Reserves were beaten.

The first team went down 3-1 in their ER Jenkins Cup group match at Hay St Marys where the general view was that the damage was very much done in the first half.

While it was generally felt this was not a game that would live long in the memory, there was no disputing that Hay were very good value for their 3-0 interval lead as they had been the better side in that first period.

Presteigne did hava a Tony Richards ‘goal’ ruled out for offside, but there were not too many complaints from the visiting players and my correspondent admitted it had ‘looked offside’ from where he was standing.

In the second period, Presteigne did improve and they game themselves a glimmer of hope on the hour-mark when Nick Evans reduced arrears.

But that was as good as it got as Hay ran out deserved 3-1 winners and are now pretty much in control of the pool as they look towards towards the knockout stages later in the season.

Meanwhile, it was no better for the Reserves who were beaten 3-2 at home by Builth Wells Reserves in their Mid Wales League (South) game at Llanandras Park.

I have very few details of the game, but the Reserves reportedly created enough opportunities to have put this one to bed, but credit to Builth for keeping going and wrapping up the points.

Duane Anning and Alan Stocker were on target for Mark Weiland’s side in this one, but they will regard this as being something of a setback in their efforts to stay on the heels of the leading clubs in the table.

More on both of these games as and when I get the details – when I do, they will be posted here.
