‘Get in!’ Spencer Napolitano nets the winning penalty

Presteigne Reserves are through to the final of the Newcastle Cup after they won a dramatic penalty shoot-out in their semi-final tie against Bishops Castle on Sunday, 29 March.

‘The Castle’ took a first-half lead, but Alan Stocker then had the Reserves back on level terms before the break.

It looked as though the Reserves were on their way through to the final when Spencer Napolitano got on the end of a Kai Dayas cross late in the game and buried his header past the keeper for 2-1.

But player-manager Mark Weiland conceded a penalty in the final minute and Bishops Castle equalised to square the game at 2-2.

Ultimately it came down to a penalty shoot out and Presteigne Reserves were to prevail 4-3 with Spencer Napolitano rounding off a good afternoon for him personally when he netted the winning penalty.

Congratulations to the Reserves and everyone connected with today’s win – especially those Under 17s players who answered the call late in the day.
