The Reserves will start on Thursday evening

In what is proving a very busy week for Presteigne St Andrews FC, it is the Reserves’ chance to centre stage on Thursday, 18 August.

They will take on Penybont Reserves in their opening Mid Wales League (South) fixture of the season where the kick off will be at 7.30pm.

Penybont’s second string are a new addition to the league this season so this will be a big evening for them as they will be keen to hit the ground running.

While he was initially down to run the Reserves this season, Tom Ammonds says recent events mean he will be taking more of a back seat role this evening.

“Dale [Tomkins] will be taking more of a control of tonight’s game as trying to get all the squads together has been quite time consuming,” said Tom.

“I would like to thank all the players for their understanding in this as we have been trying to go with limited numbers through this week to get the games covered.

“The Reserves tonight will be a blend of youth and experience and they are to be given targets to meet for this season, as in four-block games and the amount of points we expect.

“Mark Ammonds makes a return to the black and red kit after signing from Shobdon whilst Mark Weiland will also feature.

“Tonight is a little bit of ‘into the unknown’ as this is Penybont’s new reserve team, so they will also be looking to impress on their first season in the MWLS.

“Having said that if the lads want a productive season, which I know they are more than capable of, then making Llanandras Park a place to fear is paramount.

“The standards set in pre-season mean that we feel we can really push on and challenge and we just hope the squad believe this too.

“The support for the first-team game at Penybont was brilliant and the lads commented on this after the game.”
