Substitute Jack Bowen netted twice as Presteigne St Andrews saw off struggling Caersws Reserves 6-0 in their Spar Mid Wales League meeting at Llanandras Park.

Presteigne were good value for the win as they made it five victories in a row in all competitions although, to be fair to Caersws Reserves, they had some decent players in their side but, while they produced some neat approach play at times, there was no end product.

The home side was two up at the interval – Joey Price continued his good scoring run when he netted from close range following an excellent Liam Jones cross while Luke Boundford was also on target with a deflected drive.

Into the second half and Luke Boundford turned provider when his long throw from the right led to an aerial battle between Max Powell and the visiting goalkeeper.  In all honesty, the keeper should have won, but Max got his head to it for 3-0.

Jack Bowen was introduced as a substitute and hadn’t been on the field for 30 seconds when he beat three or four players on the edge of the box before finishing well into the far corner of the net.

Presteigne weren’t finished yet – Liam Jones rifled home their fifth goal with a powerful drive from the edge of the area and then Jack Bowen netted his second with virtually the final move of the game.

This was a convincing win for the home side who were missing a number of players – Gareth Watkins and Gareth Mansell were unavailable, while Nick Evans was injured.

Presteigne will next be in action on Saturday 1 May when they will head to Newbridge for a Spar Mid Wales League game.

I am reliably informed the kick off in that one will be at 2.00pm as apparently there is another game on Newbridge’s pitch after the league match.
