Reserves progress in Radnor Valley Cup

Presteigne Reserves are safely over their first hurdle in the Radnor Valley Cup after they beat visiting Llandrindod Wells Reserves 4-1 in a Thursday-night encounter at Llanandras Park.

Andy Crowe’s side had got the job done by half-time as they were 4-0 up by the interval with Ieuan Crowe netting twice – Alan Stocker and Jack Baker were also on target.

‘Crowie’ felt this had been a really good performace by his side, especially in that first half in which they effectively took the game away from the visitors.

“We had a very good first half when we started the brighter of the two sides and created a couple of good chances while they never really troubled us at all during that first period,” he said.

“Christian Roberts was working very hard up front and he squared a ball to Ieuan after 20 minutes allowing him to put us in front.

“Then about five or 10 minutes later Ieuan got his second when he was put through one on one with the keeper.

“Alan Stocker got our third goal and the fourth one came when Jack Baker went on a run forward and shot underneath the keeper,” he added.

Llandrindod Wells Reserves  did get a goal back after the break but the game largely petered out after that with both sides seemingly accepting the result.

The Reserves will face a Mid Wales League (South) trip to St Harmon on Saturday 26 February and there will be a preview of that game up online at some stage on Friday 28 February.

Apologies to all concerned for initially getting the opposition and cup the wrong way around in this report – thanks to Tom Ammonds for pointing that out.

No doubt Radnor Valley were surprised to find they had lost 4-1 in a game in which they hadn’t played – nearly as surprised as Llan’dod to find they were hosting a cup they didn’t know about.

I am blaming it on too much work and not enough alcohol… or was that the other way around, too?
