Mid Wales League (South) round up

Presteigne St Andrews FCThe international  match at Cardiff on Saturday 26 March meant – in common with the majority of other Welsh leagues – there were changes to the fixtures in the Mid Wales League (South) over the weekend.

The majority of sides, including Presteigne Reserves, were without games, but three matches did take place with implications for both ends of the division.

On Friday evening, second-placed Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw in their game against Llandrindod Wells Reserves so will feel they missed out on a chance to put increased pressure on the league leaders, Rhayader Town Reserves.

Newcastle remain second – they are seven points behind Rhayader but now have only one game in hand.

Sunday saw two further matches, this time involving sides towards the foot of the table.  Builth Wells Reserves were too strong for Bronllys at Lant Field where they ran out 2-0 winners in their game so Bronllys remain one place off the bottom on goal difference.

St Harmon are still six points clear of the bottom two although they would have been disappointed to go down 5-1 at home to Penybont.

The Swifts’ recent improved form would have given them optimism going into the game but Penybont’s win lifted them two places in the table to eighth place.
