Round up of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FCIt is very much ‘as you were’ at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League first division after the top three clubs all won their matches this weekend.

Leaders Berriew were far too strong for a Dolgellau side that has been down towards the foot of the table for most of the season – Berriew were 4-0 winners and so remain 10 points clear of Llanrhaeadr who have five games in hand.

Llanrhaeadr came through a potentially tricky game at home to Bow Street with a 3-1 victory while third-placed Carno were 2-0 winners at home to Presteigne St Andrews – a result that sends Presteigne nearer the relegation trap door.

The Llanandras Park side is now five points adrift with only two games to play so it will be a big ask if they are to beat the drop.

Llanidloes Town remain in fourth place although they dropped two points at home in a 2-2 draw against Waterloo Rovers while Tywyn Bryncrug were the big winners of the day as they thrashed visiting Dyffryn Banw 6-1.

The day’s other game saw a Penparcau side that hasn’t been able to buy a win in recent times pick up a halfway decent point at Newbridge where the game finished 3-3.

There were two games in the second division over the weekend – on Friday night Llandrindod Wells and Four Crosses battled out a 1-1 draw at The Broadway while Saturday’s match saw Abermule beat visiting Aberaeron 2-1 although neither result has much bearing on the second division table.

There was an all-second division tie in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup quarter-final with in-form Montgomery Town moving through to the last four courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Rhosgoch Rangers.

In the Mid Wales League (South), Rhayader Town Reserves maintained their five-point advantage at the top of the table with a 5-0 home win over Radnor Valley.

Rhayader have a game in hand over Knighton Town remain in second place, but they were clearly made to work harder than some might have thought at bottom side Bronllys – Martin Hall’s side eventually came through 2-1.

Newcastle dropped points when they were held to a 3-3 draw by visiting Builth Wells Reserves while it also finished all square at Llanandras Park where Presteigne Reserves and Llandrindod Wells Reserves drew 2-2.

Penybont just shaded things in a 1-0 home win over St Harmon at the Racecourse while Hay St Marys thumped visiting Knighton Victoria 5-1 and Talgarth Town Reserves won the Breconshire derby game against bottom side Sennybridge 5-2.
