Sparey Cup finalists and date change

Knighton Town are through to the final of the Alfred Sparey Cup final after they overcame Newcastle in their semi-final tie at Llanandras Park on Sunday 24 April.

Knighton were reportedly good value for their win, although Newcastle were struggling to field their strongest side – and it was a Knighton player who told me that!

But well done to Martin Hall’s side who will now face Builth Wells Reserves in the final, although this will necessitate a date change for the final.

The game was originally scheduled for Sunday 15 May, but Knighton are apparently unable to play that day as all of their players are due to attend a christening.

Cup secretary Tom Edwards has a cunning plan, and he says it is likely that the final will now be played a week earlier.

“I am trying to get the match played on the evening of Sunday 8 May after the Kingspan day that is taking place at the club that day,” he said.

“If we can do that then the kick off would probably be at around 6.00pm.

“But this will depend on Builth Wells Reserves as they may well have other cup competitions they are involved in, but I will keep everyone posted by way of the website,” he added.

Match reports of the first-team’s game at Carno and the Reserves match at home to Llandrindod Wells Reserves will appear online at some stage later today.
