Fun Day and Beer Festival today!

Presteigne St Andrews FCPresteigne St Andrews Football Club is holding an outdoor Family Fun Day and Beer Festival on August Bank Holiday Sunday, 28 August.

This should be a great day out for all the family as there will be the opportunity to see and hear some great bands, as well as witness some former footballers attempt to roll back the years when Presteigne St Andrews Over-40s will take on their Knighton Town counterparts.

There will be a  host of trade stands throughout the day selling anything from ice cream, arts and crafts and – although it is a beer festival – we shall also have a wine stand as supplied by the excellent No45, the High Street.

As for the music, there will be a fine array of talent, including: from Knighton, cover band “The Lone Wolves” and Ska nine-piece from Newtown “Smoke Like A Fish” – they are veterans of Presteigne’s Sheep Music Festival and really are excellent, so would be well worth checking out if you can.In addition to this you will also have the chance to see the rising stars of the local music scene as a selection of bands and groups from the youth of Presteigne will be playing – these will be organised by Mr Dave Luke.

A number of local organisations from the town are organising fun stalls – those behind these include: Presteigne Cricket Club, the Little People’s Playgroup, the cubs and the scouts and Presteigne Young Farmers Club.

There will be plenty to entertain all the family – for the younger ones, or those who just feel they are still young enough to have a go(!) – there will be a bouncy slide and a bouncy castle, as well as a giro.  This is one of those things that appears to spin you through a number of different directions at once – memo to self: ‘If you are going to try this, do it before sampling all the excellent beers, rather than afterwards…’.

There will be a car boot sale – dozens of boots from across the area have alreadly got their name down for this and spaces have been going fast.

In addition the older footballers showcasing their skills, the younger players will also have their opportunity as there will be games involving the youth set-up, with the Under-8s, Under-9s, Under-10s and Under-11s all in action – these matches will kick off from 1.oopm.

The Over-40s match will kick off at around 3.30pm, or as soon as both sides can make it!

All beers and ciders are kindly supplied by the Spinning Dog Brewery from Hereford – beer buffs will know they have a great reputation, so all the ingredients really will be there for what should be a great day out.

The gates will be open from noon and everyone will be welcome.  Admission will be £3.00 for adults all day and £1.00 for those under the age of 16.   If you pay a £5.00 admission fee on arrival you will receive your very own Presteigne St Andrews FC Beer Festival pint glass which will be yours to take home.
