Fun Day was ‘a great success’

The bouncy castles proved a big draw for younger 'fun dayers'

Organisers of Presteigne St Andrews FC’s Beer Festival and Fun Day have hailed the event a major success and say plans are already taking shape for a repeat of the event next year.

A large crowd turned out for the event which was held at Llanandras Park on Sunday, 28 August.

While the weather was a bit mixed, this did little to take the edge of the day as those attending keenly supported the wide range of stands that were on offer – especially, perhaps the real ale side of things.

Tom Ammonds was among the organisers of the day and he said the event had gone about as well as he and his colleagues could have hoped for – and then some, as there was a serious danger of a ‘beer drought’ later in the day.

“It was an exceptional day as obviously it is all ‘weather permitting’, really, and he was very good to us upstairs!” he said.

“We didn’t have that many car boots but that was by the by as you are not really sure what you are going to get with car boots.

“The amount of people who came through the gate who were very complimentary [was encouraging] as they said it was run really well.

“It can’t have been bad as we ran out of beer – we sold a fantastic amount of beer,” he added.

The Over-40s game saw Presteigne St Andrews beat visiting Knighton Town 5-2 although the result was almost academic as the players from both sides appeared to enjoy the opportunity to roll back the years.

“I would like to thank Jack Watkins for managing the Presteigne side in that and all in all it was a fantastic day,” said Tom.

“The beer in the clubhouse was sold out three or four times over and we had to go and borrow barrels from around the town.

“We are very grateful to all those pubs who helped us out with that and I think they had about four half- barrels of real ale left so that all went well and it ought to make a tidy little profit for the club,” he added.

Presteigne St Andrews FC are grateful to everyone who helped out on the day, and all those organisations who put up stands and supported the Fun Day, as well as all of those people from the town who came down to Llanandras Park to play their part in the event.

Tom Ammonds has been talking to the website about the day – if you would like to listen to the chat, then you can do so by clicking here.
