Presteigne St Andrews FC’s first-team manager Trevor Gummer has announced that, following discussions with club chairman, Alan Randell, he is to relinquish the post at the end of the current season.
Both parties stress the decision is an amicable one – a point underlined by the fact Trevor is to remain very much involved at Llanandras Park.
Alan Randell paid tribute to the efforts of the manager in what had been a difficult season for everyone at the Spar Mid Wales League club.
“Given the circumstances in which he took over, I think we all knew it was going to be a very tricky season for the club and we are grateful to Trevor for taking it on,” said Randell.
“But during our conversation it became clear that both parties were thinking a change was probably in everyone’s best interests.
“Trevor was a bit unlucky in the sense the job probably came about five years too early for him but we are delighted he is to remain involved with the club,” he added.
Trevor Gummer said it had been a tough managerial baptism in senior football, but insisted he had enjoyed the experience.
“To manage the club you have previously played for is a great opportunity and honour and I am delighted to have had that chance,” he said.
“Yes, it has been tough at times, but I am sure if we can keep key players at the club we can build on that for next season, while some of the younger players will have benefited from the experience.
“I am hoping that, by announcing the decision now, it will give the club the chance to have a new manager in place in plenty of time for the important pre-season programme.
“I am keen to remain with Presteigne and will give my full support to the new manager, whoever that might be,” he added.
Presteigne St Andrews FC’s committee is acutely aware of the need for an improvement in performances for next season.
They plan to start their hunt for Trevor Gummer’s successor immediately and anyone who is interested in being considered for the job of first-team manager is invited to contact Alan Randell for an initial informal chat.
