Presteigne Reserves went down 6-3 in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Newbridge Reserves, although they did show some genuine fight in the second half.
Whilst I didn’t speak to manager Stuart Skidmore ahead of the game, the great God Facebook told me he had had players dropping out on the Friday night and so had to take a much-changed side to Newbridge for this one.
This was, perhaps, underlined by the fact Merv Stephens was playing in goal when his more normal role in the side is banging goals in at the other end.
But one thing is for certain – ‘Skiddy’s’ side had a first half to forget in which they were to concede five goals without reply.
The initial signs after the break were not all that encouraging, either as the Ressies shipped another in the second period to trail 6-0.
At this point it looked as though they might end up on the wrong end of a serious mullering, but fortunately they showed some decent character from here on to pull back three goals to leave the final score Newbridge Reserves 6 v 3 Presteigne Reserves.
Sorry, my correspondent had no idea who scored for the Reserves in this one but I am due to drop by the clubhouse on the way home for the Rod Stewart night, so I might well be able to glean the necessary information there.
Someone may be able to give me the information… who knows, perhaps Maggie may? You have to be either a Rod Stewart fan or over the age of 35 to get that and either way, I’ll get my coat….
