Reserves pick up excellent point at Penybont

Presteigne St Andrews FC
The draw at Penybont has to rate as one of the Reserves' best results of the season

Presteigne Reserves came away from Penybont with a fine point following a 2-2 draw at the Emrys Morgan Cup winners.

Merv Stephens put Stuart Skidmore’s side ahead at the Racecourse, but the home side hit back to level the game.

Penybont then took the lead and they would then presumably have been confident of going on to close out the game, but ‘Skiddy’s’ boys proved they were made of sterner stuff.

Presteigne Reserves were awarded a penalty and Dan Spears kept his composure to score from the spot to tie the game at 2-2.

There is no doubting this was a great result for the Reserves, but it was also a major blow to Penybont’s hopes of finishing runners-up to Newcastle and so earning themselves promotion to the Spar Mid Wales League.

The result will have been welcomes by Hay St Marys who are now surely in pole position to take the place on offer as they are seven points clear of Penybont who have two games in hand.

But well done the the Reserves – top effort and that should set them up for the final league match at Llandrindod Wells Reserves on Saturday, 28 April.
